(Answer) (Category) Home Automation FAQ : (Category) HA Equipment : (Category) Creative Control Concepts/HCS-II : (Category) XPRESS Control Language :
I upgraded from v2.x to v3.x and now my PC can't talk to my HCS-II
v2.x of XPRESS allowed users to get by with connecting the Tx and Rx lines of the serial port (and ground). v3.x requires the handshaking lines be connected as well. If they are not connected, you will not be able to communciate with your HCS-II.

The best type of cable to use is flat ribbon cable with 16 conductors. Use a 2x8 IDC connector and an IDC 25 pin D-sub for the serial side. Align the red stripe on the ribbon cable with the Pin 1 marks on each conenctor (usually a diamond shape)

If you have a 9-pin serial port, use a 25-Pin Male to 9-Pin Female adapter.
