Can I install and use a 93C46 EEPROM in U6? |
|
NO
U6 is not necessary in a normal HCS2-DX installation. The RAM is battery backed anyway so data is preserved during a powerloss. Also, the CPU pin necessary to clock the EEPROM is used for one of the serial ports.
XPRESS has no support for this chip either.

| So the obvious question is why is it there? Well, at one time I think the original designer thought it might be useful. However, since the RAM is battery backed anyway - it seems redundant.
