(Answer) (Category) Home Automation FAQ : (Category) HA Equipment : (Category) Creative Control Concepts/HCS-II : (Category) HCS-II Supervisory Controller :
Can I install and use a 93C46 EEPROM in U6?
NO

U6 is not necessary in a normal HCS2-DX installation. The RAM is battery backed anyway so data is preserved during a powerloss. Also, the CPU pin necessary to clock the EEPROM is used for one of the serial ports.

XPRESS has no support for this chip either.

So the obvious question is why is it there? Well, at one time I think the original designer thought it might be useful. However, since the RAM is battery backed anyway - it seems redundant.
