How are extensions connected to the TD816/1232? |
|
The TD816 uses modular RJ-11 connectors to connect the extensions. The inside pari are Tip and Ring for the XDP connection to standard telephones. The outside pair are D1 and D2 which are used to connect to the proprietary digital phones.
The TD1232 uses 50-pin Amphenol connectors to connect to the extensions. There are 2 connectors, one for jacks 1-8 and the other for jacks 9-16. Each jack can handle one digital phone and one POTs/analog phone. The best way to get started is to buy a dual tailback 66 punch block. This punch block has 2 50-pin amphenol cables attached to it. You simply plug it in and start punching down your extensions to it. Ask the vendor you get yoru PBX from about connection equipment. Even if you have a TD816, it is a good idea to use a 66 punch block. This allows for MUCH easier rewiring if necessary. You can buy 66 punch blocks with RJ-11 cables prewired to them. Again, you just plug them into the PBX and start punching down extensions. 66 Punch Block require a 66 punchdown tool which will cost about $50. If you buy an 8-extension expansion module for either the TD816 or TD1232, it uses a 50-pin amphenol connector. You can buy 66 punch blocks with just one 50-pin cable on them.
With either PBX, it is highly recommended you use 66 punch blocks. You will need a 66 punch tool and also a good modular connector crimper ($10-$20).
