(Answer) (Category) Home Automation FAQ : (Category) HA Software :
Which software to use?
I'm looking at automating my home and not sure of which software is best adapted for my wants. I'm wanting one to support X10 devices, that can poll my x10 compatable thermastat, that can program the thermostat for different temps at different times on different days, that will calculate dusk and dawn, that will allow me to do a "if this and that then turn on/off ..." type senerio. Example would be if temp = 80 and attic fan is on then turn on fan2. The only software I've really looked at is the IBM Home Director and I'm not convenced it can handle the if-then-else type of senerios. Any direction and/or advice in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Marshall
I assume you are looking for a solution to run on a PC. Most stand alone controllers like the HCS-II, Stargate, Ocelot, etc. have languages which support IF THEN conditions.

However, from a PC perspective, most of the bigger names like Cyberhouse, etc. can do IF THEN as well. But they can be expensive.

I highly recommend you check out Commander-X. There is a Shareware version available for you to try out. If you like it, register to help finance future development efforts. Visit their website for more info.

I'm sure some other folks have their own recommendations as well. If you do, feel free to include them below!
