Should I use back-up power for my HCS-II?
If at all possible, you should back up the power source to your HCS-II and as many network nodes as possible.

The cost of small UPS's has dropped well below $99. These will work wonderfully since the AC current draw of an HCS-II is minimal. Anything more than 400VA is overkill.

Many people prefer to power their HCS-II's with lead-acid batteries. They ensure an excellent DC power source with power failure backup to boot. An excellent circuit for building your own battery system with charger can be found on Michel Clavette's website.

A main reason for backing your HCS-II up is that it can sense power failures via the PL-Link or HCS-PLIX modules. This allows your HCS-II to do various things when the power goes out and when it comes back on.
